Helen Georgia On The Way - Bessie
Mae’s Gifts and Collectibles
Bessie
Mae’s housed in the old historic Dyer store which was built in
1892 by Mr. Dyer himself. Bessie Mae’s is one of the finest one
of a kind collectible shops in the north Georgia mountains. Stop in
and cozy up by the same old wood stove that kept Mr. Dyer himself warm
on those cold winter days over 100 years ago. Take a short 500’
walk back behind the store for a look at some deep southern folk’s
history as you take a stroll through the old historical cemetery behind
the store. There’s even the tombstone of Mr. Dyers brother John.
If you have a passion for antiques, folk art, handmade dolls, quilts,
candles, potpourri, or any country gatherings, or if you’re on
a hunt to fix up your country home or mountain cabin, you will find
it next to impossible to leave here empty handed. Make sure and ask
about Carolyn’s one of a kind handmade dolls.
You will find excellent service and a potential story behind every
piece from the shop keeper Cheryl Walker. Yes you can purchase from
there website, but nothing beats a visit to this place on your way to
Helen Georgia to truly experience the feel of the environment. Take
a load off, sit in one of the rocking chairs out front, take a deep
breath, relax, and watch all the cars passing by. Yep, this is what
it’s all about.
