Helen Georgia On The Way –
Dixie 400 Flea Market
I can remember growing up as a kid when a flea market was a flea market.
I grew up visiting the old flea market at the I-85 drive in every Saturday
morning that was located over off I-85 between Shallowford and Chamblee
Tucker Rd. That I-85 Drive In flea market was a real flea market.
Over the years, the old real flea markets have been slowly disappearing,
and giving way to more of a gathering of vendors that sale crap retail
stuff that they manufacture themselves, or purchase in bulk from other
manufacturers.
Quickly
going away are the true flea markets full of just odds and end items
collected from here and there by various vendors, giving the shopper
a plethora of unique items to shop for.
These type flea markets are where you can usually find you
real bargains.
Dixie 400 Flea Market offers the type of stuff find that you could
place on a site like EBay, and sell for a profit. I can literally spend
up to three hours digging through stuff among their multiple buildings,
and I always come up with at least a few good finds that make it well
worth the trip.
The buildings are obviously old chicken houses with dirt floors. When
it’s hot, they have multiple large fans to keep you cooled off,
and when it starts getting cooler, they set up large floor heaters to
keep you warm.
Even if you just breeze through this place on your way to Helen Georgia,
it’s worth at least dropping by for an hour.
There’s tons of stuff, and if you’re traveling with kids,
stop here, give them a few dollars, and let them go. The kids will love
it, and it will give you time to hunt for that hidden treasure you can
resell on EBay for a few thousand bucks.
