Helen Georgia Mount Yonah
The first time I camped here was Memorial Day 2009. When I first pulled
in to check into camping here, I noticed the large pavilion was full
of families, and there were a handful of older folks grilling out hamburgers
and hot dogs. When I went in to the office to check in, and get a tent
site, the friendly gal at the desk said make sure and go to the pavilion
that the campground owners were cooking up their annual Memorial Day
feast for all the campers. I thought well what a warm welcome. I was
traveling alone, hungry, and thought this is great; I get some companionship,
and some good grilled hot dogs and hamburgers to fill my empty stomach.
They also offer up a cookout for all their campers on 4th of July, and
Labor Day. The folks at this campground are always offering up warm
and friendly hospitality.
The few
things that initially caught my interest in this campground, is that
it’s just a few miles outside of Helen Georgia, and it has a really
nice pool. The only solution to the dreaded hot summer days of Georgia
is to get in the water. Even with cooler weather up in Helen Georgia,
really hot days can be unbearable.
The other things I really like about this campground is that most of
the time, you can choose well shaded campsites, and the shower and bath
houses are very large and extremely clean and dry. So often campground
showers are small dingy minimally lit soaking wet little closets that
are just nasty to shower in. these bath houses feel more like your showering
at the Hilton compared to other campground bath houses.
The campground has a nice clubhouse overlooking the pool that stays
open until 10:00pm every night, it’s a nice place where you can
go watch TV before going to bed, and it has books, couches, magazines,
cable TV, DVD and VCR players. The campground holds a Sunday morning
church service in the clubhouse also.
There is also a playground for the kids, a volley ball area, a basketball
court, and a small kids fishing pond. And stakes with sand pits for
horseshoes.
