Helen Georgia Camping Sleepy Hollow
Campground
I slept like a baby. There wasn’t a sound to be heard from anyone
after 10:00pm. It was just me and the crickets, and the light sound
of a mildly rushing creek going alongside my camp site. I truly enjoyed
camping here, and the biggest highlight of my visit was a large 16 acre
mountain lake filled with big bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. The
perfect part was that I was allowed to sit out at this lake and fish
at night. Being able to sit out at a lake and fish at night is a rarity
in Georgia, it seems as though every small lake or reservoir in Georgia
is day use only. So I sat out there till around 9:45 at night. I caught
several catfish, and two really nice bass off of a night crawler. Sitting
out on the lake with my Coleman lantern, a fold up chair, my fishing
rod, and my mp3 player made this an extremely relaxing way to end the
evening.
The bath
house was just comfortable enough, the scenery with large open fields
reminded me of when me and a friend use to go camping on his grandfathers
farm pastures when I was a kid. You literally feel as though you are
camping on a mountain farm. The entire area at 90 acres was large enough
and being surrounded by national forest secluded enough to really bring
you close to nature. There is camping for RV’s and tents, and
you can opt for a tent site with electricity. RV storage is also available.
There are full RV hookups available.
The office has a small camp store that stocks many things you would
need including fish bait, misc. supplies, and firewood. The campground
also has a large pavilion available making this a perfect site for a
family reunion, with plenty of open fields to start up a few games if
desired.
The campgrounds are just a scenic ten minute drive to Helen Georgia,
and just a few miles to excellent dining such as the Tangle wood Restaurant,
and the Unicoi Lodge breakfast, lunch, and dinner all you can eat buffet.
The campground is private, and managed by a very hospitable older couple
that was quick to offer up a warm greeting to a new customer. Sleepy
Hollow Campground is definitely on my list of repeat visits. The sixteen
acre mountain lake makes it well worth the visit, trust me when I say,
there are some ten plus pound bass in this lake, and needless to say
it is not over fished by all means.
